The roles and responsibilities of personal trainers continue to evolve. The need for education and support within the community has become a growing aspect placed into our PT toolbox of skills.
I take great pride in working within a community driven organisation. My colleague, Jake Baxter and I recently presented to Year 11 students at a careers workshop at Catherine McAuley and Parramatta Marist High School.
My name is Mark Moy and I am a trainer at The Fitness Embassy®. My current role is to work with young people with additional needs in our Enable Motion program. It is a program where we support parents and carers with a focus on safe exercise and movement to build capacity and wellbeing.
We were approached by Sharon Brincat, the PDHPE Coordinator of Catherine McAuley, Westmead who also is a fitness graduate of PT National.
We jumped at the opportunity to share our knowledge and experience with the eager students who were not that much younger than Jake and I.
Our two hour presentation was designed to share our knowledge, experience, tips and tricks with the students who are currently studying VET Fitness. It was an opportunity for them to ask us questions and use it to catapult their fitness careers.
I am very passionate about helping others with a need to realise that you too can lead a career in the fitness industry, which once was a myth that it was only for a short employment period.
I believe it is very important to educate young people to follow career paths they are passionate about and can positively impact their local community.
I was so impressed with the level of intelligence in the room and the level of potential of the students. I am very confident that the fitness industry is in safe hands with these incredible individuals studying their units towards a Certificate III in Fitness.
When I was asked to do this talk at Catherine McAuley, I felt honoured to represent The Fitness Embassy®, even at this early stage in my fitness industry career pathway. I acknowledge that career talks are very rare regarding the subjects of fitness and personal training, and it was important to do it justice.
We presented on the benefits and challenges associated with stretching, sports specific stretching, new theories and development in mobility, and ran a practical session on injury prevention through PIR and PNF stretching.
It was a great feeling and it was so rewarding to receive an email from Sharon after the day.
I just wanted to drop you an email to say thank you for arranging for Jake and Mark to come out to Catherine McAuley and run a workshop with the McAuley and Parramatta Marist Year 11 VET fitness classes on Wednesday. Thank you for supporting this activity.
The students all enjoyed the morning, interacting with and learning from the trainers. It was a worthwhile experience for them to hear from Jake and Mark, who spoke to them about their career pathways, training, client experiences and a range of other related topics. The stretching session was also fantastic, with the students learning skills that they can use throughout their study of the Fitness course.
They did a great job!
